Hilo, Hawai‘i – August 18, 2015 – As part of their “Fuel Up. Do Good.” community giving program, Ohana Fuels donated $4,902.92 to Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center. The company gives a portion of every gasoline sale to support a worthy cause or group each quarter. “We were delighted to be selected as the charity this spring,” said Ku‘ikahi Executive Director Julie Mitchell. “When local businesses support nonprofits, the whole community benefits.” During the second quarter of 2015, Ohana Fuels’ TOP TIER™, fuel-efficient gasoline sales were designated to help fund Ku‘ikahi’s “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace” educational programs. “This generous gift allows us to continue and expand our East Hawai‘i Peer Mediation Elementary School Pilot Project. From one school in 2014 to seven schools in 2015, this program teaches fourth and fifth graders how to resolve conflicts among their classmates,” Mitchell said. Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center empowers people to come together–to talk and to listen, to explore options, and to find their own best solutions. To achieve this mission, Ku’ikahi offers mediation, facilitation, and training to strengthen the ability of diverse individuals and groups to resolve interpersonal conflicts and community issues. Ohana Fuels has eight locations on Maui and four on Hawai‘i Island, including two in Hilo on Puainako and Leilani Streets, one in Keaau in Orchidland, and one in Laupahoehoe. “The mission of our Giving Program is to help meet the needs of the communities we serve by supporting nonprofit organizations that improve overall quality of life.
