Ohana Fuels Donates $4,902.92 to Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center

Hilo, Hawai‘i – August 18, 2015 – As part of their “Fuel Up. Do Good.” community giving program, Ohana Fuels donated $4,902.92 to Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center. WAILUKU, MAUI –   Maui Family Support Services, Inc. is the recipient of Ohana Fuels “Fuel Up, Do Good” program for the second quarter of 2015.  A portion of fuel sales at all Maui Ohana Fuels locations in the amount of $8,214.38 was donated to MFSS.  Ohana Fuels also provided materials for 3 car washes that were held in April, May and June.  Proceeds of the car washes also benefitted MFSS and contributed an additional $1,058.00 to Maui Family Support Services.

“Because of the Ohana Fuel Do Good Donation,  Maui Family Support Services, Inc. was able to hold a Staff Retreat for 75 employees to renew their commitment to the mission of MFSS, to learn about Hawaiian cultural practices, and update the strategic plan for the agency.  MFSS served over 6,100 people in FY 2015 in the islands of Maui, Moloka`i and Lana`i.  MFSS completed over 4,200 home visits, over 1,000 referrals to community resources, 72 socializations/family days, and 200 group sessions with youth, parents, resource caregivers and fathers.”

MFSS has served Maui County children and families for over 34 years providing a variety of services to strengthen families. “We are honored to be selected in this wonderful program of Ohana Fuels.  Their donation will help our agency in supplementing much needed funding for the services we provide in Maui County,” states Edeluisa Baguio-Larena, CEO of MFSS.

WAILUKU, Hawaii, April 28, 2015 Students and staff of Hui Malama Learning Center were presented with a generous gift of $7,491.14 by Hawaii Petroleum through its Ohana Fuels “Fuel Up. Do Good” Community Giving Program.  From January through March 2015, a portion of sales from Ohana Fuels TOP TIER™ fuel efficient gasoline, sold at eight of the Ohana Fuel Stations located throughout Maui, was designated for donation to Hui Malama Learning Center’s enrichment programs.  In addition to the funds raised through the “Fuel Up.  Do Good” Community Giving Program, Ohana Fuels also provided Hui Malama with the Minit Stop location and equipment to conduct carwash fundraisers, which helped raise additional funds.  The funds donated by Ohana Fuels will allow the school to expand academic and mentoring programs as well as community service projects. “The mission of our Giving Program is to help meet the needs of the communities we serve by supporting non-profit organizations that improve the overall quality of life.  Ohana Fuels proudly sponsors programs that enhance the vitality of our neighborhoods, celebrate our community’s success, and support local charities”, said Kimo Haynes, President of Hawaii Petroleum Inc. Hui Malama Learning Center was the fortunate recipient of the Ohana Fuel Up Do Good Donation for the first quarter of 2015. The funds donated by Ohana Fuels allowed the school to expand academic and mentoring programs as well as community service projects.

Emphasizing project-based learning and youth engagement strategies that develop the whole person, Hui Malama cultivates each student’s unique talents, intelligences and character. Through a social entrepreneurial approach and leveraging resources through partnerships, Hui Malama demonstrates a Non-Profit Social Impact Model that is organizational sound, fiscally responsible and sustainable.

With our donation from Ohana Fuels, 25 Hui Malama students were able to learn the art of net making from mentor Uncle Wesley Wong.   Upon completion of the net, the students were able to meet with Uncle Skippy Hau for a field trip to Makena for a demonstration and lesson on fish varieties and fishing techniques. After this fishing excursion students returned to school to learn the proper techniques of cleaning and cooking. The following day the students, staff and mentors enjoyed a lunch with the bountiful harvest from the fishing and also some vegetables from our school garden. This lesson was able to teach our students how to become self-reliant and provide food for themselves and their families

Ohana Fuels Donates Over $7,500 to Imua Family Services

During the months of October, November, and December 2014, Imua Family Services was the recipient of Ohana Fuels, “Fuel Up. Do Good” Program.

A portion of proceeds from fuel sales at all Maui Locations supported Imua Family Services continued efforts. The total amount rose from all activities supported by Ohana Fuels, totaled over $7,500. Additionally, Imua Family Services’ Camp Imua Program hosted two car washes with proceeds to benefit a week long recreational camp for keiki with special needs. Proceeds from “Fuel Up. Do Good” will support Imua Family Services’ Early Childhood Development Program for children ages 3 to 6 can receive therapeutic developmental services to address mild to moderate delays and do not qualify for special education services from the Department Of Education. This vital program allows many children and families on Maui to continue to receive support after aging out of federally funded Early Intervention services.

HIWEDO is a private non-profit agency established in 2005; the agency broadly supports workforce and economic development initiatives.  HIWEDO’s programs are designed for access to all, however, its focus is on at-risk youth, unemployed and underemployed individuals, the underserved population, and small businesses.

This contribution will directly support HIWEDO’s Huiana Student Internship Program.  This program focuses on Hawaii Island youth as the labor force of the future with the strategy of developing the workplace skills of our high school students.  Huiana connects school-based learning with work-based learning by placing students in 60-hour internships that are tied to their career pathway interests.  This helps students to hone in on career interests, teaches job readiness and workplace excellence skills, and enables students to reflect on and develop their work ethic, thereby, fostering relevance in education.  Huiana is open to all students  but is designed to assist at-risk students.  The program serves approximately 90 students a year.

Hawaii Island Adult Care, Inc. is a non-profit agency serving kupuna and challenged adults and their families since 1976. Programs include the Hilo and Honomu Adult Day Centers and Caregiver Connection with Support Group and Caregiver Respite Days. This contribution will directly support our Caregiver Respite Days for one year. It provides an opportunity for family caregivers from the community at large, time to relax, get massages, engage with other caregivers and learn skills needed to care for their loved ones. Additionally it will provide tuition assistance for low income participants attending the day care program.

WAILUKU, MAUI (Hawaii) – Maui Economic Opportunity, Inc. (MEO) received $8,385.30 from HFN Maui Petroleum, Ohana Fuels, “Fuel Up. Do Good.” community giving program.    Ohana Fuels partners with non-profit organizations that serve the needs of the community by donating a portion of each purchase from every gallon of gasoline sold.

During an award presentation at MEO’s headquarters, CEO Lyn McNeff said, “We are grateful to HFN Maui Petroleum, Ohana Fuels for their support.  They are wonderful community partners.  This funding will allow us to assist clients who may otherwise be turned away.  Grants are typically specific, dictating who qualifies and receives assistance. If the individual does not meet the funding source’s eligibility criteria, we can’t help.  These funds will allow us to help the “gap” group who are in serious need of assistance. It will also be used to help support other unfunded agency needs.

Feed My Sheep Maui benefits from Ohana Fuels $8,076.67 donation

Puunene, Maui, HawaiiFeed My Sheep was the most recent beneficiary of the Ohana Fuels “Fuel Up. Do Good” program. A portion of all third quarter sales at all Maui Ohana fuels locations in the amount on $8,076.67 was donated to Feed My Sheep.

Feed My Sheep is a unique mobile food distribution program. They take their mobile food distribution to neighborhoods of need each week. They pass out bags of groceries to anyone who needs the help. The results are exciting. Each month they give 69,000 half-pound meals. In the last year they have given food to 3,400 people including working but poor families, seniors on fixed incomes and homeless men and women. Each person who comes has a few moments with someone who cares and food for their week.

The Ohana fuels donation will go a long way to ensuring Feed My Sheep can continue the great service they are providing the community.

Ohana Fuels donates a percentage of all fuel sales from April thru June, totaling over $4500 in donations to support Helping Hands Hawaii’s Hilo Office

HONOLULU – (August 12, 2014) – During the months of April thru June 2014, Helping Hands Hawaii’s Hilo office (HHH) was selected by Ohana Fuels (OF) to be the recipient of a portion of the proceeds from all fuel sales at their Hawaii island locations. In addition, OF made their station in Hilo available for a fundraiser car wash for each of the 3 months that HHH was their beneficiary. The total amount raised from all activities supported by OF, totaled over $5,000.

“The financial support and community awareness that the OF campaign created, will help us to continue to provide needed case management services to adults with serious mental illness, most of whom also struggle with poverty or homelessness. OF has shown a true desire to give back to the community and we are so grateful for their support” said Jan Harada, CEO of Helping Hands Hawaii.

Those with mental illness who also struggle with substance abuse and/or poverty and homelessness are often some of the most vulnerable in our communities. The case management work that is done for these individuals is about helping them to stabilize and work towards recovery and improvement of their overall quality of life (e.g. less hospitalizations, decrease in criminal activity/crime recidivism, financial stability, etc.).
