Big Island: Arc Of Hilo Benefits from Ohana Fuels’ “Fuel up. Do good.” Program

Hilo, Hawai’i – The Arc of Hilo was the most recent beneficiary of the Ohana Fuels “Fuel Up. Do Good.” Community Giving Program.  Ohana Fuels partners with nonprofit organizations that serve the needs of the local community and donates a portion of every gallon of gasoline purchased at Ohana Fuels stations in that community.  The total donation to Arc of Hilo was $6,549.90 from gasoline sales during the 1st quarter at all Ohana Fuels locations and proceeds from car washes held during the quarter.

 

The Arc of Hilo enriches the lives of youth and adults with disabilities through employment and youth transition services, community living supports, and low income housing. 

 

“The generous support of Ohana Fuels will help the Arc of Hilo fulfill its mission, especially with our new youth program Career Exploration, which helps youth with special needs in high school successfully transition to community employment by age 18 alongside their non-disabled peers,” said Robert Efford, CEO of the Arc of Hilo.

Maui: The Walk to End Alzheimer’s Benefits from Ohana Fuels’ “Fuel up. Do good.” Program

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Maui, one of the flagship events of the Alzheimer’s Association Hawaii, is the most recent beneficiary from the Ohana Fuels ‘Fuel up. Do good.’ program. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Maui is scheduled for Saturday, October 22 at Keopuolani Park in Kahului.

 

Ohana Fuels partners with nonprofit organizations serving the needs of the local community, and donates a portion of the proceeds from every gallon of gasoline purchased at all Ohana Fuels stations in that community. During the months of January through March 2022 a portion of all gasoline sales at Ohana Fuels locations on Maui were donated to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Maui. Together with a car wash held in March led by the Maui Walk volunteer committee, the partnership with Ohana Fuels generated over $7,500 for the Walk.

Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island Benefits from ‘Ohana Fuels Donation

During the fourth quarter of 2021 ‘Ohana Fuels “Fuel Up. Do Good.” program, $6,281.27 was raised for Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island. Each time that customers filled up gas at any of the Big Island ‘Ohana Fuels locations, a portion of the proceeds was donated to BGCBI.

“Ohana Fuels has been an outstanding supporter of our youth development programs throughout Hawai’i Island. The funding received will be dedicated to support our West Hawaii youth, providing them with daily academic support and nutritional supplementation,” said BGCBI Chief Executive Officer Chad Cabral.

The “Fuel Up. Do Good.” provides a donation to the participating nonprofit organization based on the number of gallons sold at all ‘Ohana Fuels on the island for that quarter. The program started in 2012 and one nonprofit is chosen each quarter. BGCBI was the first nonprofit recipient chosen when the program began.

Maui Food Bank Benefits from Generous Ohana Fuels Donation

Maui Food Bank was the most recent beneficiary of the Ohana Fuels “Fuel up. Do good.” Community Giving Program. Ohana Fuels partners with nonprofit organizations that serve the local community’s needs and donates a portion of every gallon of gasoline purchased at their stations in that community. The total donation given to Maui Food Bank from Ohana Fuels will provide over 20,000 meals to people who are at risk of going hungry.

Maui Food Bank is Maui County’s primary safety net for those who are food insecure. The food bank serves over 12,000 people per month who need hunger relief. “Mahalo to Ohana Fuels for the generosity they have extended to Maui Food Bank and for their commitment to helping the hungry in our island Ohana,” said Marlene Rice, Development Director of Maui Food Bank.

Project Hawai’i, Inc. was the most recent beneficiary of Ohana Fuels’ “Fuel up. Do Good”  Community Giving Program. We are pleased to announce we received $5,409.63 from the  portion of gasoline sales on Maui Island. Ohana Fuels partners with nonprofit  organizations serving the needs of our local communities every quarter. Due to covid this  year the car washes were a virtual event and raised $1,108.00 from the community  who volunteered to make this a success regardless of the circumstances. We are honored to have raised a total of $6,517.63 with this amazing partnership. Without opportunities like these,  our homeless children would not have the benefit of emergency outreach needs. 

Project Hawai’i, supported solely by public donations, strives to provide a sense of stability  to our homeless youth by providing holiday events, school support, educational, recreational  and wellness training, as well as monthly outreach. Partnerships like these allow us to continue our efforts to help homeless children succeed all year long. We had an amazing time  over the 3 month long program bringing volunteers together at virtual carwashes and making fun  social media videos all while raising the funds needed to change lives. Maui AIDS Foundation Benefits from Ohana Fuels ‘Fuel Up. Do Good.’ Program

Maui AIDS Foundation provides critical resources that promote the health and well-being of the members of Maui County, including the islands of Maui, Lanai, and Molokai. The services that they provide help keep the community healthy as a whole by offering both preventative services and opportunities for testing, counseling, and referral services for those who are concerned about their health.

 

For those in the community who are living with HIV/AIDS, Maui AIDS Foundation provides a wealth of programs for those with barriers to assistance. Not only do they offer medical health services and support, they also provide dental health service linkage, assistance with applying for and navigating insurance, and case managers help each individal access an appropriate HIV doctor and HIV medicines. In addition to these health services, they offer an on-site food pantry, housing assistance, and more for their clients.

 

Maui AIDS Foundation also offers counseling, social activities, support groups, and other positive community elements to support those in the LGBTQ community, giving a safe space to some of the community’s most vulnerable members including teenagers who need social and emotional support. 

 

Thanks to the assistance from Ohana Fuels, Maui AIDS Foundation is able to continue offering its critical community work at no-cost to community members during the pandemic, as the need grows and funds continue to be limited.

Neighborhood Place of Puna 2

Neighborhood Place of Puna Benefits from Ohana Fuels ‘Fuel Up. Do Good.’ Program

Neighborhood Place of Puna provides families with the support and resources they need to be successful in raising healthy children in a nurturing home environment. In the last year, Neighborhood Place of Puna helped 166 households through various programs including their Family Support Program, a Family Resource Center, Emergency Rent and Utility Assistance, and Disaster Case Management. In addition, Neighborhood Place of Puna offers a Family Emergency Shelter with a primary focus on young children. Of the 66 children sheltered at Hale ‘Iki Family Emergency Shelter 65% were between the ages of 0-5, crucial ages for a child’s healthy development.

Neighborhood Place of Puna also provides early childhood interventions that help disrupt generational poverty and support the healthy development of children. They are committed to helping local, Big Island families, especially single-parent families, find the supports and resources they need as a family. “I appreciate the kind and caring advocate that took time to help out my family in our time of need,” says a former NPP client who was helped with rental assistance funds through Neighborhood Place of Puna Resilience Programs.

BISAC Benefits from Ohana Fuels ‘Fuel Up. Do Good.’ Program

Since 1964, Big Island Substance Abuse Council has been inspiring individuals and families to reclaim and enrich their lives in the wake of the ravages of substance abuse. They offer a continuum of services that are culturally appropriate and aligned with the ever-changing behavioral health field.

 

BISAC has a strong commitment to serving both Hawai’i County and the state of Hawai’i.

Direct services for adults include Therapeutic Living Program, Day Treatment, Intensive Outpatient Treatment, Outpatient Treatment, Clean & Sober House, Counseling and Therapy, as well as other supplemental services. BISAC also offers direct services for youth including school-based services and community-based treatment.

 

Hawaii Island Health & Wellness Center is a division of BISAC that provides behavioral and mental health services to both BISAC patients and the general public. The goal of HIHWC is to enhance well-being and create meaningful changes in the community and the lives of those they care for.

 

Demand for treatment has been high, particularly with the added stresses of the pandemic. The donation from Hawaii Petroleum will be used to carry forward Big Island Substance Abuse Council’s mission of helping individuals, their families, and their communities reclaim their lives.

Maui United Way Benefits from Ohana Fuels ‘Fuel Up. Do Good.’ Program

Maui United Way is working to address Maui’s most vital needs through the impact areas of education, income sustainability, and health. Maui United Way has a goal to bring people, organizations, and the community together around a common cause, a common vision, and a common path forward.

 

Some of Maui United Way’s direct assistance programs during the pandemic include utility bill assistance and emergency rental assistance. Non-pandemic programs include a holiday toy drive and a school supply drive, as well as information and referral services, and an emergency food and shelter program.

 

Maui United Way looks forward to rounding the corner of the pandemic crisis. The support that the Hawaii Petroleum donation brings will help provide a hand up to those needing it most, as well as  a safety net to ensure Maui County’s most at-risk populations don’t fall through the cracks.
